Summary

Mangafox  writes :
Saiyuki is the story of four anti-heroes: the monk Genjyo Sanzo (or just "Sanzo"), the monkey demon Son Goku, the half-demon Sha Gojyo, and the man turned demon Cho Hakkai (formerly known as Cho Gonou). They have been dispatched by the Sanbutsushin (the Three Aspects of Buddha, who relay the orders of heaven) to travel to India to stop the possible resurrection of the Bull-Demon-King, Gyumaoh. Along the way they are beset by inept assassins, bad weather, and their own tragic personal pasts. Meanwhile, the villains, two unlikely confidants, Gyokumen Koushou (Gyumaoh's concubine, a demon) and a mad scientist, Dr. Ni Jianyi (a human), continue their attempts to restore the long-dead king. These experiments, a forbidden mixture of science and magic, spawn the "Minus Wave", infecting all of the demons in Shangri-La with madness, shattering the fragile peace that once existed between humans and demons.

Coffee's Saiyuki review:

Kazuya Minekura's art has been loved by either Saiyuki lovers or non Saiyuki lovers alike. People who hasnt even read her story style has instantly like the art style of this author of Saiyuki. She has been very active on her own manga *she has no assistants* but her sickness has driven her to go on very long hiatus but she did went back to draw after she got well. There is a massive hysteria in the anime forums that she has sent to her publisher that she didnt inked her arts. To my point of view, her draft sketches are waaay better than her inks or her coloured arts. She has also published her own artbooks called "Salty dog" to show her other arts that has not been set in manga covers or chapter pages.

She loves drama as much as her real life does. I havent heard anything about her past but around in japanese forums, they have passed on wiki stories that she is also a drinker and a smoker. *well that proves that why is her main character a drinker and a smoker*

The anime:
The first season of Saiyuki anime was made possible Square Enix. Just in case to people who doesnt know Square Enix, those are the people who made Final Fantasy series *probably before they were separate companies as 'Square' and 'Enix'*. This company were only accepting really good story to become anime. That means its something good for Minekura. the style was all good until when they air the 2nd season Saiyuki reload, it wasnt made by Square Enix. For that it was a huge dissapointment to fans worldwide *included me, i went back reading the mangas*

Vash's Saiyuki review:

I believe and in no contrast to my fellow reviewers reviewing skill that He went far to easy on this manga.
The story is a little run in and kill bad guy for me personally. And the fights along the way are always short and seemingly the same. When I actually get into this manga( rarely) I end up sometimes even skipping through some of there rather corny Conversations and skipping along.
Now it's not to say the manga is bad I believe it is a rather over average manga . There were some priceless moments but all in all i don't think of it as the greatest.

The art I am also going to have to disagree with you on. for a couple reasons .For one the mark for the manga isn't based on the artists skill level it's based on whats in the pages of this manga inked and prepared.
And to me the final product is shotty and over ranked in todays anime world. Not to say again that it is terrible But I don't believe it is worth even close to a ten here Regardless of the cool points it throws on for originality.

I would definitely recommend this manga to any girls who like fan fiction other then that I wouldn't recommend it to many.

Coffee's Favorite character's of the series:

Sanzo:

The reason I've been a skeptic is well, the story about shoujo or shounen has been repeated too many times. (or is it because I have read too much mangas, MANGA OVERDOSE = BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH) The reason Im still into shounen because they have made more unique stories than shoujo does. If there is existing unique shoujo out there that i havent read, well you are not helping me by not being well scatter all over internet.

Being sanzo (if you want to act like one), he is a typical dude who pass by your neighbourhood. I dont drink or smoke but I hang out who drinks and smokes. Sanzo tends to be outworldly moody or pissed other characters off for no reason but deep down, he's just a softie trying to make place in the world. He saves the world if you want him to, but dont ask him to do it, he will just give you a contradicting answer
